Customized Protective Films

Protective film also known as Masking film or Guard film is a material that protects surfaces that are susceptible to damage . It protects its substrate from minor or moderate abrasions, scratches and more. The current generation of Protective films is usually made of low density Polyethylene because of its lightweight, transparency and stretchable properties.
The concept of Protective film was first brought by the US military in the 1960’s to protect their helicopter blades from debris in the Air. Initially made with the intent to increase the longevity of the substrates, the Protective films now also focus on temporary protection of the surface to maintain its new look until it reaches the end-user. The films give temporary protection to the surface while manufacturing, transportation and handling of goods.

Protective films are now used in many industries and with the increase in popularity of the films and widening of its applications, industries had also started facing problems with the last generation films.

The Primary issue was that a single type of film was used for every application. Even though the product and the process of application are different in every industry. After thorough market research, it was found that the main objective for which Protective films are used i.e. maintaining the new look of the product has failed. The films which were meant to protect the surface and make it look new are ultimately deteriorating the look of the product as the glue gets transferred from the film to the surface causing stains/marks on it.
It was evident that a single solution (only one type of film) cannot work for every application. The only solution to the problems is the customization of the films based on industry requirements. Specialty Polyfilms had identified this issue in the early stages and has started producing Non-glue coated customizable Protective films. It is leading the way in customization of Protective films for different industries in the view to make multiple products that perfectly suit the industry requirements.

The customization is not only about changing the width, thickness and length of the films. It’s done at levels like adding UV protection, giving antimicrobial properties, hot and cold application, sustaining high temperatures, modification in the tensile and peeling strengths, coloured and printed films etc. Customization to this level gives a sense of ownership to the end-user and makes them proudly think of the films as their own special product. 

These customization is resolving problems industries were facing with the old general-purpose films in the market.
